Approximate — actual capacity depends on how debris is loaded.

The most popular size for residential work — enough capacity for most whole-home projects without the footprint of a 30- or 40-yard.

Placement & clearance

The delivery truck needs a clear, firm, level spot with room to set and retrieve the container:

Length
~28'Container plus truck clearance
Width
~18'Container plus side clearance
Overhead
~20'For the truck’s lift arm

Driveways can be protected with boards. Street placement may need a municipal permit — we confirm this on your quote.

Weight & heavy debris

This size includes a typical allowance of 3–4 tons (6,000–8,000 lbs). Weight, not volume, is usually the real limit:

  • Dense material — concrete, brick, dirt, asphalt — hits the weight cap while the box still looks half full.
  • Overage beyond the included tonnage is billed per ton; we flag this when heavy debris is involved.
  • Tell us your debris type so the right container and tonnage are matched on your quote.

20-Yard questions

Why is the 20-yard so popular?

It hits the sweet spot: enough volume for whole-home renovations, large roof tear-offs, and full cleanouts, but a footprint that still fits most driveways. For a lot of projects it’s the one container that does the job.

What size roof does it handle?

A single-layer tear-off up to roughly 2,500–3,000 sq ft. Because shingles are heavy, larger or multi-layer roofs may need a 30-yard or a second container.

Will it fit in my driveway?

Usually — plan for about 18 ft of width and 28 ft of length plus overhead clearance. Its 20-ft length needs a bit more approach room than the smaller sizes.
